Maya Tulum is a stunning retreat bathed by the magical warm waters of the Caribbean Sea on the Yucatan Peninsula. This is the land of the Maya, rich with physical beauty and infused with spiritual energy. Located 1.5 hours south of Cancun, Maya Tulum lies at the entrance of the Sian Ka'an National Park, an intact nature reserve. The resort is run by Mayan Indians. They are light-hearted, gentle people that delight in serving their guests. The facilities include cabanas for lodging, a large meditation/yoga hall and a large dining area, all beautifully constructed in the Mayan tradition. The cabanas are round, rustic and charming. They are surrounded by windows for striking views of the sea and jungle and are covered with high thatched roof ceilings that give a wonderful sense of openness. The peacefully rustic Maya Tulum is a magical place. We invite you to gather with us for a celebration of body, mind and spirit at this spectacular location.
Breakfast is a feast of freshly cooked eggs, pancakes, french toast, homemade scones, pastries, fresh breads, cereals, tropical fruits and tea or coffee.
Lunch and dinner include a wide range of soups, pastas, crepes, fresh vegetables, quiches, souffles, various stuffed vegetables, delicious salads, rice, deserts and tea or coffee.
John Merideth is a certified yoga instructor and
teaches the Ashtanga method. He has been studying
and teaching yoga for more than 14 years. John
believes strongly in the authentic transmission
of classical ashtanga yoga as taught by Sri K.
Pattabhi Jois (the 89 year old living master of
ashtanga yoga). As such, John's teaching
style is very “hands on.” He
utilizes manual adjustment techniques along with
the proper vinyasa method to help students
uncover the deepest possible awareness in each
posture. Working within the framework of
classical ashtanga yoga,
John makes each class unique and challenging
through posture modifications and alignment
isolation. His practices are always
dynamic and energetic with emphasis placed on
growth of the individual student. John gently
nudges his students encouraging them to explore
ever-greater depths of the Ashtanga form.
This retreat is suitable for all levels. A basic
understanding of of the Ashtanga Primary Series
will be helpful but is not required. Many of the
classes will explore more specialized areas, such
as hip opening, back bending or vinyasa flow. In
these classes John's concise verbal instructions
combined with his intuitive physical adjustments
will help you refine and deepen your relationship
to particular asanas. One session will be spent
in question and answer addressing individual
alignment issues and looking at a few of the more
complex asanas. Every class will flow naturally
toward uncovering the inherent joy, wonder and
playfulness of the practice.
Discover the majesty of nature
in a beautiful location. Dive into crystal
clear, turquoise-colored Caribbean sea water
or walk miles of beautiful white beaches.
Explore the vast lagoons and unspoiled
rainforest of the "Sian Ka'an" (where the
sky is born) Biosphere Reserve. The second
largest protected area in Mexico, Sian
Ka'an, is home to hundreds of species of
birds, manatees, fish and sea turtles. Ride
into the sunset on board a 36-foot catamaran
yacht or spend a day snorkeling off the
coast.
Uncover the hidden mystery of ancient Mayan cities. Tulum: (7 km. north of Maya Tulum) is the largest Maya construction built on the coast. Today it is Mexico's most visited pre-Hispanic site. Tulum was a very important center of commerce and a place of pilgrimage in the past. This royal city, perched on limestone cliffs, is worth a visit because of the magnificent view and the charm of its buildings. Coba: The pyramids of Coba are isolated in the jungle 30 miles west of Maya Tulum surrounded by several lagoons. Walk the paths and experience the powerful meditative energy. Climb to the top of the pyramids and sit quietly enjoying magnificent views over miles of virgin jungle.
Relax on the beach listening to the ever-present rhythm of the waves or enjoy one of the many spa treatments available at the Maya Tulum resort.
