My Baby

In 1999 I was going through something (not for the first time by the way). In less than a year I ended a 5 year relationship, sold my condo, moved into a new home and most importantly decided it was time to pursue my dream, i.e. quit my “job”. For a guy who likes intensity...it was a very intense period. Anyway, my dream at that point was to become a full-time yoga instructor. I had been teaching in Atlanta for a few years and finally felt like it was time to dive head first into “creating my bliss”. So for two years I drove all over Atlanta, teaching privates and classes in gyms and studios and club houses and peoples homes. It was fun and exhausting and by 2001, I knew there had to be a better way. About this time, I reconnected with a friend who was transitioning out of one business into another and he offered to let me use the space at 900 Peachtree on the weekends and in the evenings. I remember having giant butterflies in my stomach. Owning my own studio seemed so grown up and serious and despite lots of experience running other peoples businesses, I really didn’t know if I could make it work. Midtown was still being gentrified at this time, parking seemed sketchy, my friend was not so sure how long he was going to be in the space, I was looking at spending most of my savings in the first couple years, etc, etc, etc. Looking back there were plenty of challenging hurtles to overcome and it was definitely scary (there were many classes with me and one student). I persevered though and in the process began to understand that success is what you make of it. Obviously something extraordinary happened since onlYoga continues to grow and mature. I am proud to be the founder and director of a business that at its core strives to reinforce our natural strengths and fosters growth for everyone. This is a little piece of our history.

onlYoga Mission Statement

At onlYoga we recognize the value and significance of doing one thing very well. We strive to build each of our classes around the vinyasa method, the core of Ashtanga yoga. In acknowledging that Ashtanga yoga is an ancient Eastern practice, we attempt to preserve its authenticity in the face of the ever shifting currents and trends of Western contemporary society. Through years of experience with the Ashtanga practice, we trust in its power to non-aggressively confront mental and physical resistance and in so doing reshape the minds, bodies and spirits of our students. By creating an intimate setting, with a manageable student to teacher ratio, onlYoga offers a dynamic environment where both the teacher and student contribute to the process of learning. Knowledge, commitment, discipline and authenticity inform the principles supporting our teaching philosophy. Please visit us, we hope to see you in a class soon.
