6:15 - 7:45pm - Primary Series Level 1 - Instructor:
John Merideth
Description:
The Primary Series is the foundation of Ashtanga
Yoga. This intermediate level class will cover the
entire primary series and is designed for students
with a desire to explore some of the more challenging
standing and seated postures as well as backbends,
headstands, etc. Students should be familiar with the
Ashtanga sun salutations and standing postures. By
practicing the Ashtanga Yoga primary series in the
traditional way, using the rhythm of the breath and
the continuous flowing movements of vinyasa between
poses, we integrate the body, mind and spirit into a
full and complete experience. (intermediate)
Prerequisite: 5-10 or more intro level classes.

The Mexico Skinny
We had a few new people join us, one from NYC Joann, who works with Darma Mitra at his studio in NYC. She was really sweet and fun to work with.
We also had Sarah and Meredith Join us again (much to my pleasure) this year from the Pacific North West...Portland I believe. I think we would be hard pressed to find more enthusiastic participants than Sarah and Merideth - they are great!
Becca O'Connor and her husband, Gary, joined us from the Colorado area---and they were, well, very business. Gary loves his new MacBook Pro 17" and we had a brief but meaningful conversation about how superior macs are to any other system...on the planet! I love anyone who loves a Mac!
Joanna and her brother were an adorable new addition to our week. Hailing from Puerto Rico, although living in Atlanta presently, they added some multicultural flair to a primarily gringo crowd. Carlos has a new nickname...The Luuuva.
We also had newbies Courtney and Sabrina. Courtney was attacked by the mosquitoes in her room a few times but she came out ok. They were also chased into shore by a mad school of minnows. Sabrina...you should know not run on the beach before you take one of my classes.
Then we have the old timers who have been to all of the retreats thus far. Harriet and Henry (part of our "senior" crowd) did well. Harriet is STILL working on her headstand! When we inquired why Harriet was wearing a long sleeve shirt and pants on the beach, under a palapas, a wide brimmed hat and 45SPF, she claimed that any exposure to the sun reduced the effectiveness of her Botox. Henry is still Henry with his very unusual sense of what some people might refer to as humor.
Mark Williams gave us all style pointers while we ate in the dining hall. I'm sure he was happy that no one kicked him in the head this year!
Leigh and David Mallis seemed obsessed with baby names the entire time we were in Mexico. I mean really folks - just name him Tag or Rocket or bunny and be done with it. David went on a couple "dives" into what sounded like big sink holes in the jungle...makes you wonder.
Luis was well...very busy if you know what I mean. This is a man on a mission. Her flew in late and left early, literally, but we loved seeing him!
David Perry was also there and we enjoyed his company immensely. Did you know that David has an aversion to cilantro...who would have guessed.
Laura Hull finally got her room straight on the last day and seemed to have a grand time on the beach.
Personally, my only catch was the return leg of my flight home. I ended up in the Miami airport for 6 hours...luckily I brought mucho entertainment.
So we are back, sun kissed and relaxed...it is always nice to be home!
